Shannon Werner
Class of 2006

Shannon Werner has always had a strong interest in art. Werner, a native of Jasper, Indiana, was involved in numerous high school activities, including the gifted and talented art program, art club, track, cross-country, Students Against Destructive Decisions and the mathematics club. During her final year of high school she won the art department award that is given to one senior.

"I chose to go to the University of Evansville because I wanted to study art and education," said Shannon. "I was impressed with both of the departments. I wanted to go to a school where I knew I would receive individual attention on a regular basis and be provided numerous internship opportunities in the surrounding secondary schools."

Shannon has displayed her artwork on campus in the student show as well as in community shows. She is also the secretary of the honorary art fraternity Kappa Pi, a member of the Chi Omega sorority, and vice president of operations for the Panhellenic Council. "I am immensely enjoying my experience at Evansville," said Shannon. "After Evansville, I hope to teach art in a high school, whether it is in southern Indiana or elsewhere."

Isiac Mickens
Class of 2005

Isiac Mickens graduated from UE in 2005 with a degree in visual communications. "My collegiate journey originated in Miami, Florida, where I began studying graphic design at Broward-Community College," said Isiac. "Little did I imagine that this venture would relocate me to Evansville. I was a little reluctant at first for Evansville was uncharted territory for me. I was unsure what to expect from the city and what I could offer it at that time.

This move was based upon a family decision, mainly my mother, who was pursuing her bachelor degree in pastoral studies at Masters of Divinity College. However, once I arrived I was eager to roam around this place and continue my mission for success.

It took a brief period time before I settled down. Immediately I started working to muster finances for school. I searched endlessly to find the best curriculum for my career interest. I narrowed my options between the University of Evansville and the University of Southern Indiana. Financially, USI was more convenient; however, UE offered much more of an array of meaningful courses suitable to my needs.

Another thing that influenced my decision toward UE was the faculty. They immediately embraced me as soon as I walked in to visit my first day. I felt wanted and appreciated. The support by the faculty eased my transition into this institution. Soon after my acceptance to UE, everything began to fall into place.

UE has done an excellent job in preparing me for the real world. I truly would like to thank the faculty who supported me since the beginning, the registration and graduation committee, and last but not least, the Chair of the Art Department. Their support has been wonderful for me. I will always hold UE dear to my heart. I highly recommend that potential students invest their future into UE. It’s well worth it!"
