Les Miley, who taught at the University of Evansville and served as chair of the Art Department for over 40 years, is now professor emeritus and continues to teach part time. He holds BA and MA degrees from Indiana State University and an MFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

During his career, Mr. Miley's ceramic works have been exhibited in over 200 competitive and invitational art exhibitions throughout the United States and Europe. His works are included in several corporate, private, and museum collections, including the Evansville Museum of Arts and Science, Boris Wine Collection of American Ceramics, Ceramics Monthly 's Ceramics Collection, Axner Inc., Oviedo FL, and Sheldon Swope Museum, Terre Haute IN. Feature articles and photographs of his work have appeared in Ceramics Monthly, Studio Potter, Arts Indiana, and American Craft. Photographs of his works have appeared in Pottery Decoration by Tom Shafer, Salt-Glaze Ceramics by Jack Troy, Ash Glazes by Philip Rogers, and Clay and Glazes for the Potter by Robin Hopper.

Mr. Miley has been honored for his artistic achievements, having been selected for inclusion in Who's Who in American Art twelve times since 1978. Additionally, the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana selected him as the 1996 Artist as the Year. Mr. Miley has received several awards for teaching, including the University of Evansville Alumni Association Teacher of the Year in 1988, the Sadelle Berger University of Evansville Outstanding Faculty Scholar Award in 1986, and the Phi Kappa Phi Outstanding Faculty Award in 1986. Mr. Miley was also selected as the Arts Educator of the Year 2000 by the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana.

In addition to his educational work, Mr. Miley has been involved in the Evansville Arts and Education Council of Southwestern Indiana, the Evansville Museum of Arts and Science, and a number of civic organizations. He frequently serves as a speaker, juror of exhibitions, and as a donor of works for fundraising purposes locally and regionally.
