Tracy Maurer, M.S.
Indiana State University
Adjunct Instructor

Tracy Maurer earned her MS in Communication in 1990 from Indiana State University. Before coming to the University of Evansville in 1995, she spent five years at Bethany College in West Virginia as an assistant professor of communication, teaching courses in publications design, public relations, print journalism and advertising. She was also Director of Student Publications, overseeing the College's student-run newspaper, yearbook and magazine.

In addition to teaching publications design for the Department of Art since 2001, Ms. Maurer previously taught a variety of courses for the University through the Department of Communication. She serves as Director of Student Publications (Student Publications Adviser), assisting about 40 students each semester as they learn the editorial, copy editing, writing, advertising sales and design, layout, photography and leadership aspects of producing and directing The Crescent, the University's weekly newspaper, and the LinC, the University's yearbook.

Ms. Maurer's yearbook staffs have received a number of organization and individual awards. The 1999 LinC was an Associated Collegiate Press "Pacemaker Award" recipient, the highest honor awarded nationally to a collegiate publication. In addition to receiving many awards for design, writing and photography, the LinC has been named "Yearbook of the Year" by the Indiana Collegiate Press Association (Division II, yearbooks under 300 pages), for five consecutive years, since 1999.

In 2002, the Indiana Collegiate Press Association's "Print Advertising Award" went to The Crescent for its outstanding advertising design. Staff members have also won individual awards in writing and photography over the years. In 1998, The Crescent received the University's "Organization of the Year" award. Ms. Maurer was named the University's "Adviser of the Year" in 1998 as well.
