DEGREES
The Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Art
      The Bachelor of Fine Arts prepares students for graduate study and to enter the professional field as artists, teachers, designers or other art-related professions. Students complete a minimum of 60 semester hours in art, including the studio core curriculum and basic art history courses.

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art
      The Bachelor of Arts program meets the needs of students interested in art as a discipline of study within a liberal studies education. Students complete 40 hours in studio art courses, including the studio core curriculum, plus art history courses. Students select a second academic subject area outside of art for a minor. Some possible minor areas include business, communication, history, religion or philosophy.

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education
      Students in the art education program complete the School of Education requirements, the UE general education program, the Department of Art studio core curriculum plus art history and supervised student teaching. The visual arts education major is encouraged to earn a teaching minor in a second area.

The Bachelor of Science in Art and Associated Studies
      The Bachelor of Science in art and associated studies is designed for students who wish to combine an art major with an associated field of study such as psychology, sociology, special education, archeology, art history, business, communication, history or literature. Students in this degree program intend to follow various arts-related careers such as pre-art therapy or museum practices. Students complete the studio core curriculum, two art history courses and select a studio major. Additionally, the students complete 18 to 24 hours in an associated studies area related to their career interest.

The Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design
      The Bachelor of Science in graphic design is designed for the student interested in pursuing a career in graphic design but who still wants to complete a traditional art curriculum. Students in this degree program complete the studio core curriculum, six hours of art history courses and 18-24 hours in another area of study related to their career interest, including a minimum of nine hours in one area. Areas often selected are mass communication, business or art history.

The Bachelor of Science in Visual Communication
      The Bachelor of Science in visual communication degree is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in art with an emphasis in computer technology. Students majoring in visual communication complete an abbreviated core art curriculum, classes in mass communication and art history plus 38 hours of free electives. Career choices open to visual communication graduates would include special effects design, advertising, design work for television, web design, industrial design or publishing, to name but a few.

Art Practicums
      Art practicums (internships) are available to qualified students in graphic design, visual communication, photography, studio art, pre-art therapy and museum studies.

Portfolios/Art Scholarships
      Portfolios are not required for admission to UE or the Department of Art. However, art scholarships are available for qualified students through the presentation of an art portfolio. Study Abroad
      Students can choose to spend a semester at the University of Evansville’s Harlaxton College in Grantham England.
